A hearing has been set to resolve disputes between the prosecutors and Christopher Smith on enhancements to his sentencing guidelines. The sentence range in this case goes from a mandatory minimum of 20 years to a maximum of life. (This is in addition to whatever he gets in his other trial -- which we're not tracking because almost all of the documents are under seal -- for witness tampering.) The government is asking for a term of 30 years to life, while the defense is asking for the minimum. |
